Milligan baseball falls to Lee University

Milligan College, Tenn. (Mar. 29, 2010) --- The Milligan College baseball team fell in two games to nationally ranked Lee University on Tuesday afternoon at Anglin Field. The Buffaloes fell 2-1 in the first game, and was unable to respond to a late Lee charge as they fell 7-4 in the nightcap.

In the first game, the Flames, who are ranked second nationally, opened the game with two runs in the top of the first. Milligan responded in the bottom of the fourth when Kyle Kolat (South Bend, Ind.) drove in Dustin Ford (Jonesborough, Tenn.). However, the Buffaloes were unable to add another run to tie the Flames.

At the plate, Kolat led the Buffaloes with a 3-for-3 performance and a RBI. On the mound, Jordan Rawlyk (Saskatoon, Canada) got the start and was handed the loss. In three innings of work, Rawlyk allowed two earned runs on four hits. Sean Robinson (Knoxville, Tenn.) pitched four innings, and recorded five strikeouts and allowed just two hits.

The second game saw Lee jump out to an early advantage as they put two runs on the board in the first inning. Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) responded for the Buffaloes as he hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the first. After Lee added a run in the third and fourth innings, Kolat and Ford crossed the plate to pull Milligan within one run after four innings of play.

The Buffaloes tied the game in the fifth when Cody Hyder (Johnson City, Tenn.) scored off of a Ford sacrifice fly. The Flames broke the tie in the top of the seventh, and Milligan was unable to respond.

Ford and Kolat were both 2-for-3 at the plate. JJ Bergamin (Ontario, Canada) was handed the loss in two innings of work. Freshman Ethan Fleenor (Johnson City, Tenn.) got the start, and allowed four runs on six hits in three innings of work.

Milligan moves 16-17 overall, and remains 6-2 in AAC action.

The Buffaloes return to action on Saturday, April 2, when they travel to Montreat College for an AAC weekend series. First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m.
