Montreat, N.C. (Apr. 2, 2011) --- The Milligan College baseball team picked up two AAC victories on Saturday afternoon as they swept Montreat College in a doubleheader in Montreat, N.C. The Buffaloes scored in the final inning to take a 5-3 victory in the first game, and held on to a 6-4 victory in the day's second game.
In the first game, Corey Hilton (Johnson City, Tenn.) opened the scoring with a two-run homerun in the top of the first. Montreat battled back to take a 3-2 lead heading into the game's final inning, and a Hilton walk with the bases loaded tied the game at 3-3.
Bart Roark (Mountain City, Tenn.) put the Buffaloes on top with a double that drove in two runs.
Jason Trivett (Bristol, Tenn.) got the start and win for Milligan. In six innings of work, Trivett allowed two earned runs on five hits, and struck out seven batters.
Jake Howell (Johnson City, Tenn.) picked up the save. Offensively, Roark led the way with a 2-for-4 performance with two RBIs.
In the second game, Milligan jumped out early, and then held on to take the victory. On the mound,
LA Owens (Dillon, S.C.) picked up the start and the win. Owens allowed just one run on two hits in four innings of work, while Howell recorded the save.
Dustin Ford (Jonesborough, Tenn.) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Buffaloes at the plate.
With the pair of victories, Milligan improves to 8-2 in the AAC and 18-17 overall.
The Buffaloes return to action on Sunday, April 3, when they return to Montreat for a nine inning game. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
