Williamsburg, Ky. (Mar. 3, 2011) --- The Milligan College softball team picked up a pair of victories on Thursday afternoon as they swept the University of Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky. The Buffaloes won the first game 8-3 in eight innings, and then took a 9-1 victory in the nightcap.
In the first game, Milligan scored six runs in the eighth inning after tying the game in the seventh to take the 8-3 victory.
Abby Hughes (Rogersville, Tenn.) was 2-for-4 at the plate, while
Emily Biggs (Kingsport, Tenn.) was 1-for-1 with a run scored.
Megan Heaton (Elizabethton, Tenn.) and
Camille Olvey (Maryville, Tenn.) recorded two RBIs apiece.
Sidney Burns (Tallahassee, Fla.) went the distance for Milligan in the pitching circle. Burns gave up seven hits and just two earned runs while striking out five batters.
In the second game, Milligan scored three runs in the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie, than added five more in the sixth to finish the sweep.
Biggs led Milligan as she was 2-for-4 at the plate and had four RBIs. Freshman
Krista Lambdin (Maryville, Tenn.) was 3-for-3, while
Brittany DiRobbio (Oviedo, Fla.) was 2-for-2.
In the pitching circle, Chancil Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.) got the start and win. In six innings, she allowed just one earned run.
With the pair of wins, the Buffaloes improve to 6-11.
Milligan returns to action on Sunday, March 6, as they open up the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic at Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Buffaloes play University of Maine at Presque Isle in their opening game.
