Milligan College, Tenn. (Apr. 17, 2011) --- The Milligan College softball team celebrated senior day with a sweep over Tennessee Wesleyan at Anglin Field on Sunday afternoon. Milligan took an 8-1 victory in the day's first game, and then completed the sweep with a 3-1 victory in the second game.
In the first game, TWC got on the board first in the top of the first, but the Buffaloes took advantage of three Lady Bulldog errors to put five runs on the board in the top of the third.
Emily Biggs (Kingsport, Tenn.) hit a three-run homerun in the sixth inning to put the game away for Milligan.
Senior
Sidney Burns (Tallahassee, Fla.) got the start and the win in the pitching circle. In seven innings of work, Burns struck out 10 batters, and gave up just one run on five hits.
Freshman
Krista Lambdin (Knoxville, Tenn.) was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while
Camille Olvey (Maryville, Tenn.) was 1-for-2. Biggs led Milligan with three RBIs.
In the second game, the Buffaloes jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first inning of play when
Jessica Fix (Chesapeake, Va.) drove in Olvey. The bottom of the third saw Milligan scored again off of a Fix RBI. After TWC scored a run in the sixth, the Buffaloes responded when Fix crossed the plate off of a Biggs' double.
Freshman
Chancli Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.) picked up the win in the pitching circle. In six innings of work, Connatser allowed one run on four hits. Fix was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Olvey was also 2-for-3 at the plate.
With the pair of victories, Milligan improves to 25-16 overall and 8-4 in AAC action.
The Buffaloes return to action on Monday, Apr. 18, when they host NCAA Division II North Greenville University. First pitch in the doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m.
