Milligan College, Tenn. (Apr. 18, 2011) --- The Milligan College softball team picked up a pair of victories against NCAA Division II North Greenville University on Monday afternoon at Anglin Field. The Buffaloes took the first game 1-0 in eight innings, and held on to take a 5-4 victory in the nightcap.
The first game remained scoreless through seven innings. Milligan broke the tie to take the victory in the bottom of the eighth inning when
Camille Olvey (Maryville, Tenn.) crossed the plate off of a
Emily Biggs (Kingsport, Tenn.) single.
Brittany DiRobbio (Oviedo, Fla.) went 1-for-1 at the plate, while
Megan Heaton (Elizabethton, Tenn.),
Ellyn Sapp (Johnson City, Tenn.), and Olvey all went 1-for-3.
In the pitching circle,
Sidney Burns (Tallahassee, Fla.) gave up just four hits and did not allow a run. Burns struck out five batters.
Milligan jumped out of the gate quickly in the second game as they put three runs on the board in the bottom of the first, two of which came off a
Abby Hughes (Rogersville, Tenn.) triple. The Lady Crusaders scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, and added another run in the seventh to tie the game. The Buffaloes defense saw Olvey end the top of the ending with a diving catch, and Milligan took the win when DiRobbio drove in
Dana Lefler (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.).
Hughes was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while
Alicia Engle (Erwin, Tenn.) was 1-for-3. Burns picked up the victory as she allowed one run on one hit.
Chancli Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.) got the no-decision in six innings of work as she allowed three runs on four hits.
With the wins, Milligan improves to 27-16 and remains 8-4 in the AAC
The Buffaloes return to action on Wednesday, April 20, when they host Montreat College in a pivotal AAC matchup. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
