Milligan softball advances in AAC tournament

Kingsport, Tenn. (Apr. 27, 2011) --- The Milligan College softball team used a six run fourth inning to take an 8-0 victory in five innings over Bryan College in second day action of the 2011 Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament at Domtar Park in Kingsport, Tenn.

The first two innings saw neither team able to get a run on the board. After holding Bryan to three straight outs in the top of the third, Brittney DiRobbio (Oviedo, Fla.) took advantage of an errant Lady Lions throw to get on third base. Camille Olvey (Maryville, Tenn.) drove in DiRobbio to give Milligan the 1-0 lead.

Neither team was able to score in the third inning, but Milligan cranked up the offense as they scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth as Jessica Fix (Chesapeake, Va.) and Olvey recorded two RBIs apiece in the frame. The Buffaloes secured the victory in the fifth when Emily Biggs (Kingsport, Tenn.) crossed the plate.

In the pitching circle, Chancli Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.) recorded the victory as she allowed just two hits in the game. Connatser along with DiRobbio was 2-for-3 at the plate. Olvey was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Fix was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

With the win, Milligan improves to 29-18 overall.
