Milligan College, Tenn. (Apr. 9, 2011) --- The Milligan College softball team came up short 4-3 in an AAC contest to Virginia Intermont on Saturday afternoon, and saw the second game suspended due to rain.
In the first game, the Buffaloes were the first team on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning when
Jessica Fix (Chesapeake, Va.) drove in
Emily Biggs (Kingsport, Tenn.) and
Brittany DiRobbio (Oviedo, Fla.). The Lady Cobras responded in the top of the sixth when they scored three runs, but Milligan answered in the bottom of the seventh when Fix crossed the plate. However, Milligan was unable to respond to an eighth inning run by VI.
Fix was 1-for-2 with two RBIs to lead Milligan at the plate. In the pitching circle,
Sidney Burns (Tallahassee, Fla.) got the start and struck out 11 VI batters. In eight innings of work, Burns allowed four runs, two of which were earned, on three hits.
The second game will be rescheduled at a later date.
With the loss, Milligan falls to 20-14 overall and 3-2 in the AAC.
The Buffaloes are slated to return to action on Tuesday, April 12, when they travel to Reinhardt University. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m., in Waleska, Ga.
