Milligan College, Tenn. (Sept. 10, 2011) --- The Milligan College volleyball team opened up AAC action on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over conference newcomer Columbia College inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
After Columbia captured the first set 25-23, the Buffaloes fought back to take the second set 25-21. Milligan took a game advantage in the game's third set as they took the set by a score of 25-23. In the decisive fourth set, the Buffaloes trailed 15-10, but bounced back to take the game and the match by a score of 25-23.
AAC Libero of the week
Morgan Rutledge (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the Buffaloes with 21 digs and 11 kills.
Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) recorded 37 assists and 17 digs, while freshman
Erin Pittman (Norris, Tenn.) had 18 digs.
Rachel Renville (Broomfield, Colo.) and
Holly English (Kingsport, Tenn.) had 10 kills apiece. Katelyn Henson (Kingsport, Tenn.) recorded 21 digs.
Kendra Fiddler (Colorado Springs, Colo.) recorded nine solo blocks, while
Kylie Whaley had seven solo blocks. As a team, Milligan recorded 18 solo blocks.
Milligan improves to 2-8 on the season.
The Buffaloes return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 13, when they host AAC rival Union (Ky.) College. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m., inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
