Milligan volleyball strolls past TWC

Athens, Tenn. (Sept. 15, 2011) --- The Milligan College volleyball team picked a 3-0 victory over AAC foe Tennessee Wesleyan on Thursday night in Athens, Tenn.

The Buffaloes jumped out early in the match as they cruised to a 25-13 set victory. Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) served 12 straight points to open the second set, and Milligan never looked back as they captured the second set by a score of 25-11. In the third set, the Lady Bulldogs kept the set close in the early going, but Milligan went on an 18-6 run to propel them to a 25-13 set victory to take the match.

Kendra Fiddler (Colorado Springs, Colo.) recorded nine kills, three block assists and two solo blocks, while Spivey recorded 23 assists, six kills and three aces. Rachel Renville (Broomfield, Colo.) and Rachel Hurley (Fayette, Iowa) had six and five kills, respectively. Morgan Rutledge (Kingsport, Tenn.) ended the match with 16 digs.

“It was a good overall team win,” Head Coach Doneva Bays said. “It was a great opportunity to get everyone on the team playing time, and a nice road win to help build our confidence.”

With the win, Milligan improves to 2-9 overall and 2-1 in the AAC.

The Buffaloes return to action .3on Saturday, Sept. 17, when they travel to UVA-Wise. Game time is set for 11 a.m., in Wise, Va.
