Wise, Va. (Sept. 17, 2011) --- The Milligan College volleyball team picked up a nonconference win on Saturday as they knocked off UVA-Wise 3-1 in Wise, Va.
The Buffaloes took advantage of an early run to take the first set 25-21, but fell 25-23 in the second set. Milligan bounced back as they blasted ahead in the third set with a 25-17 set victory. In the decisive fourth set, the Buffaloes secured the win with a 25-20 set victory.
Morgan Rutledge (Kingsport, Tenn.) led Milligan with 22 digs and 15 kills, while
Kendra Fiddler (Colorado Springs, Colo.) recorded 14 kills, five digs and two blocks. Sophomore
Kylie Whaley (Maryville, Tenn.) had 14 kills and a solo bock.
Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) tallied up 45 assists, 10 digs and two solo blocks, while
Katelin Henson (Kingsport, Tenn.) had 26 digs.
“Overall, it was a pretty good game,” Head Coach
Doneva Bays said. “We had some unforced errors in the early going, but it was good to work our way out of those to play pretty well towards the end of the game.”
With the win, Milligan improves to 4-9 overall.
The Buffaloes return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 20, when they host Virginia Intermont inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
