Milligan College, Tenn. (Sept. 20, 2011) --- The Milligan College volleyball team picked up a 3-1 victory over AAC foe Virginia Intermont on Tuesday night inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
In the game's first set, Milligan was unable to hold off a late VI charge as the Lady Cobras took the set 28-26. The Buffaloes fell behind early in the second set, but charged ahead late to take a 25-21 set victory. Milligan pulled away early as they cruised to a 25-9 victory in the third set, and then pulled away late to take a 25-22 victory in the decisive fourth set.
Kylie Whaley (Maryville, Tenn.) recorded 11 kills and five block assists, while
Kendra Fiddler (Colorado Springs, Colo.) had 10 kills and two solo blocks.
Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) had 40 assists.
Morgan Rutledge (Kingsport, Tenn.) tallied 27 digs, and
Holly English (Kingsport, Tenn.) and
Katelin Henson (Kingsport, Tenn.) had 16 and 14 digs, respectively.
With the win, Milligan improves to 5-9 overall and 3-1 in AAC action.
“We came out slow, but it was great to bounce back to take the win,” Head Coach
Doneva Bays said. “We had a lot of unforced errors early on, but started playing our match and not theirs.”
The Buffaloes return to action on Friday, Sept. 23, when they travel to Bryan College. Game time is slated for 6:30 p.m., in Dayton, Tenn.
