Clearwater, Fla. (Sept. 3, 2011) --- The Milligan College volleyball team came up short in two games on Saturday as they fell to Clearwater Christian and Trinity Christian in the second and final day of the Clearwater Christian Labor Day Classic in Clearwater, Fla. The Buffaloes fell 3-1 in the day's first game against host Clearwater and dropped a 3-1 decision to Trinity.
In the day's first game, Milligan dropped the first set against Clearwater 25-14. However, the Buffaloes fought back to take the second set by a score of 25-23. Despite a hard fought effort, Milligan was unable to continue the rally in the third and decisive fourth set as they fell 25-17 and 25-20.
In the final game of the tournament, Milligan captured the first set 25-20 against College of St. Catherine. After falling narrowly in the second set, the Buffaloes bounced back and captured the third set 25-19. However, Milligan was unable to hold on in the fourth and final set as they fell 25-23 and 15-12, respectively.
“It has been a tough trip for us, but we keep getting better every day,” Head Coach
Doneva Bays said. “We are a relatively young team, and will only keep improving from here on out.”
Milligan moves to 1-8 on the season.
The Buffaloes return to action on Saturday, Sept. 10, when they kick off the conference slate against AAC newcomer Columbia College inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
