Milligan College, Tenn. (Sept. 8, 2011) --- The Milligan College women's soccer team picked up their first victory of the season with a 2-1 victory over Southern Wesleyan University on Thursday night at Anglin Field.
The Buffaloes came out of the gate strong as they got on the board in the fifth minute when
Lauren Brewer (Knoxville, Tenn.) found the net. Milligan took a 2-0 lead three minutes later with a
Jacklyn Orange (Bagdad, Ky.) goal in the game's eighth minute. The Warriors answered in the 17th minute with a Meghan Bullock goal, but the Milligan defense kept SWU from scoring another goal to preserve the victory.
As a team, the Buffaloes outshot the Warriors 21-6.
“It is really nice to finally get a win,” Head Coach
Lisa Buckley said. “I've never beaten them in my coaching career. They are a great team that is very comparable to us, and it was definitely a great test for us. I thought we played good soccer today.”
With the victory, Milligan improves to 1-1-1 on the season.
The Buffaloes return to action on Saturday, Sept. 10, when they host Southern Virginia University at Anglin Field. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
