Buffaloes women's basketball falls in AAC road game

Waleska, Ga. (Jan. 5, 2012) --- The Milligan College women's basketball team saw a four game winning streak snapped on Thursday night as they fell 55-42 to Reinhardt University in AAC action in Waleska, Ga.

Kayla Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) opened the game's scoring as she hit the lone basket for either team in the first four minutes. The Buffaloes settled down offensively as they pulled out to a 5-4 lead with 13 minutes left in the half. However, the Lady Eagles used a 10-2 run to take the lead.

Milligan cut their deficit to six points with an Ashlee Price (Rogersville, Tenn.) basket, but that was as close as they could get for the remainder of the half as they trailed 31-18 at the break. In the second half, Milligan continued to fight to trim the Reinhardt lead, but the Buffaloes were unable to pull back within striking distance.

Kelly led the way for Milligan with 10 points, while former Hampton standout Chelsey Weddle (Hampton, Tenn.) tallied nine rebounds, a season high for the freshman, and eight points. Jaimee Hill (Johnson City, Tenn.) recorded seven points, while Dorian Freeman (Augusta, Ga.) and Price had six points apiece.

As a team, Milligan was 17-of-66 (26%) from the floor but were 0-of-15 from the 3-point line. Reinhardt ended the game 21-of-52 (40%) from the field and 4-of-11 (36%) from behind the arc.

The Buffaloes fall to 1-2 in AAC action and 9-6 overall, while Reinhardt moves to 3-1 in conference play and 8-8 overall.

Milligan wraps up a stretch of seven straight road games when they return to action on Saturday, Jan. 7, at Bryan College. Game time in Dayton, Tenn., is set for 2 p.m.
