Milligan volleyball drops road AAC game

Bristol, Va. (Oct. 2, 2012) --- The Milligan College volleyball team dropped their first Appalachian Athletic Conference contest of the season as they fell 3-1 to Virginia Intermont on Tuesday night inside the Cobra Den in Bristol, Va.
 
   The Buffaloes jumped out to an early lead in the first set, but the Lady Cobras rallied and used a late run to take a 25-16 set victory. After falling behind 9-3 to start the second set, Milligan responded with a 9-3 to close the gap to 13-12. Neither team could gain separation the rest of the way until the Buffaloes captured a 25-23 set victory.
 
   The third set saw the Buffaloes lead the way for most of the set, but VI closed the frame on a 9-4 run to capture the set. In the decisive fourth set, Milligan closed an early gap to two points. However, they were unable to get back in front as VI took the set 25-18.
 
   AAC Setter of the week Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) had 31 assists, while Holly English (Kingsport, Tenn.) recorded 13 kills and nine digs. Kylie Whaley (Maryville, Tenn.) had 11 digs. Katelin Henson (Kingsport, Tenn.) had a team high 12 digs
 
   With the loss, Milligan falls to 7-1 in conference play and 12-7 overall.
 
   The Buffaloes return to nonconference action on Thursday, Oct. 4, as they host NCAA D-II Carson-Newman College. Match time inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse is set for 6:30 p.m.
