Buffaloes volleyball falls in nonconference match

Milligan College, Tenn. (Oct. 4, 2012) --- The Milligan College volleyball team fell 3-0 on Thursday night to NCAA D-II Carson-Newman College in nonconference action inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
 
   In the night's first set, the Buffaloes kept pace with the Lady Eagles before Carson-Newman pulled away to take a 25-21 set victory. After falling behind early, Milligan battled to catch up. However, they were unable to get back in front as Carson-Newman won the set 25-19. The decisive third set saw the Buffaloes unable to answer a late Lady Eagles run as they took a 25-19 set victory to secure the match.
 
   Senior Holly English (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the way with eight kills and nine digs. Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) tallied 20 assists and six kills, while Kaitlyn Qualls (Colorado Springs, Colo.) had a team high 11 digs. Kylie Whaley (Maryville, Tenn.) and Rachel Renville (Broomfield, Colo.) had six kills apiece.
 
   With the loss, Milligan falls to 12-8 overall and remain 7-1 in Appalachian Athletic Conference action.
 
   The Buffaloes return to action on Saturday, Oct. 6, as they travel to Dayton, Tenn., for a crucial AAC clash with Bryan College. Match time is slated for 1 p.m.
