Milligan men's basketball falls on first day of Zweifel/Pritchett Classic

Wilmore, Ky. (Nov. 16, 2012) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team was unable to keep pace with Cincinnati Christian University on Friday afternoon as they fell 81-69 on the first day of Zweifel/Pritchett Classic hosted by Asbury University in Wilmore, Ky.

The Buffaloes jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the opening minutes with four points from Torian Sitton (Hendersonville, N.C.). After the Eagles trimmed the gap to two points, Milligan used three straight points from Mickey Woods (Port Arthur, Tex.) to pull back into the lead, and the teams were tied at 18-18 midway through the half.

However, CCU used a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to take the game's first double-digit lead. Milligan cut the gap to five points with just over two minutes left in the frame, but that was as close as they could get as they trailed 46-30 at the half.

In the second half, Milligan continued to fight as they slowly trimmed the lead to seven late in the half. However, that was as close as they could get before time expired.

Kurt Brooks (Newport, Tenn.) led the way with 16 points and six rebounds, while Cartree Pettis (Orlando, Fla.) and Sitton tallied 11 points apiece. Senior Tyler DeVault (Kingsport, Tenn.) had six points and six rebounds.

As a team, Milligan was 27-of-67 (40%) from the floor and 6-of-20 (30%) from the 3-point line, while the Eagles were 29-of-55 (53%) from the field and 8-of-15 (53%) from behind the arc.

With the loss, the Buffaloes fall to 2-2 overall.

Milligan returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 17, as they wrap up the Zweifel/Pritchett Classic against host Asbury University. Game time in Wilmore, Ky., is slated for 7 p.m.
