Milligan College, Tenn. (Dec. 3, 2012) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team picked up a 74-63 nonconference victory over Alice Lloyd College on Monday night inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

Ignas Palaima (Lithuania) opened the game strong for Milligan as he scored the Buffaloes' first six points as they built a 6-2 lead five minutes into the half. However, the Eagles battled back with a 12-0 run to take a 14-6 with 11:52 left in the first half.

Torian Sitton (Hendersonville, N.C.) ended the Alice Lloyd run, and
Kurt Brooks (Newport, Tenn.) drained a 3-pointer to spark a 10-0 Milligan run that gave the Buffaloes a 18-16 lead. After Alice Lloyd tied the game, Sitton and freshman
Cartree Pettis (Oviedo, Fla.) responded with jumpers to give Milligan a 25-20 lead with 4:35 left, and Milligan ended the half on a 9-2 run to take a 34-28 lead at the break.

  Brooks tallied eight points to lead the way in the half. As a team, Milligan was 14-of-23 (61%) from the field and 4-of-8 (50%) from behind the 3-point line. Alice Lloyd finished the half 13-of-37 (35%) from the floor and 2-of-6 (33%) from behind the arc.

  In the second half, the Buffaloes used a four point play from Sitton to spark a 10-3 run as
Tyler DeVault (Kingsport, Tenn.) and
Scott Blake (Greeneville, Tenn.) hit baskets to give Milligan a 47-33 lead seven minutes into the half. Milligan maintained a 53-38 lead midway through the frame after points from DeVault and Pettis. ÂÂ

  Milligan quickly added to their lead with a 3-pointer from
Kurt Brooks (Newport, Tenn.) and a DeVault layup to extend their lead to 20 points, but Alice Lloyd used an 8-1 run to trim the Milligan lead. However, Brooks stopped the run with a jumper and
Mickey Woods (Port Arthur, Tex.) and Sitton added baskets to extend the Buffaloes lead back to 19 points. From there, the Buffaloes kept the Eagles at bay to preserve the victory. ÂÂ

  Sitton and Brooks led the way with 13 points apiece, while DeVault and Palaima tallied 11 points each. Pettis and Woods ended the night with eight points apiece. Sitton led the Buffaloes in rebounding with eight.

  As a team, Milligan finished the game 29-of-53 (55%) from the field and 6-of-12 (50%) from the 3-point line. Alice Lloyd ended the game 24-of-66 (36%) from the floor and 5-of-16 (31%) from behind the arc.

   With the win, Milligan improves to 5-4 overall and remain at 1-1 in conference action. Alice Lloyd falls to 6-6 overall with the loss.
