Buffaloes men's basketball falls to Asbury

Wilmore, Ky. (Nov. 17, 2012) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team was unable to complete a late rally as they fell 90-81 to Asbury University on Saturday night during the second day of the Zweifel/Pritchett Classic in Wilmore, Ky.

After Asbury jumped out to a 7-2 lead, Milligan went on a 5-0 run to tie the game at 7-7 on an Ignas Palaima (Lithuania) jumper four minutes into the game. The teams traded points over the course of the next five minutes before the Eagles went on an 11-0 run to take a double-digit lead.

Milligan battled back as Tyler DeVault (Kingsport, Tenn.) pulled Milligan within five in the final two minutes, and Chris Ellis (Bristol, Tenn.) hit a jumper to close the Buffaloes deficit to 42-37 at the break.

Torian Sitton (Hendersonville, N.C.) and DeVault hit jumpers to help Milligan quickly close the gap to one point four minutes into the half. Asbury answered with a run of their own as they slowly pulled away from the Buffaloes.

Milligan made a late run as a pair of Sitton free throws closed the gap to nine points, and Mickey Woods (Port Arthur, Tex.) added points to pull Milligan within six in the closing minutes. However, that was as close as the Buffaloes could get before time expired.

DeVault led the way with a team high 19 points and seven rebounds. Palaima recorded 12 points, while Woods ended the game with 11 points and four assists. Sitton finished the game with 11 points.

As a team, Milligan was 29-of-59 (49%) from the floor and 3-of-9 (33%) from the 3-point line. Asbury ended the game 29-of-62 (47%) from the field and 7-of-18 (39%) from behind the arc.

With the loss, Milligan falls to 2-3 on the season.

The Buffaloes return to action on Monday, Nov. 26, as they host Berea College. Game time inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse is set for 7 p.m.
