Milligan men's basketball falls to ETSU in exhibition action

Milligan College, Tenn. (Nov. 29, 2012) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team fell 94-46 to ETSU on Thursday night in an exhibition game inside the MSHA/Athletic Center in Johnson City, Tenn.
 
   Mickey Woods (Port Arthur, Tex.) gave the Buffaloes an early lead with a 3-pointer, but the Buccaneers went on an 11-0 run. Ignas Palaima (Lithuania) cut the Milligan gap to 11-5 with a jumper with 15:22 left in the half. Torian Sitton (Hendersonville, N.C.) hit a lay-up off a Woods steal and Tyler DeVault (Kingsport, Tenn.) added a basket to help Milligan closed the gap back to eight points.
 
   However, ETSU went on a 12-0 run to extend their lead until Will Carpenter (Sylva, N.C.) drained a 3-pointer for Milligan with just over six minutes until the half. The Buffaloes added points from freshman Cartree Pettis (Oviedo, Fla.) and Scott Blake (Greeneville, Tenn.), but they trailed 48-20 at the break.
 
   Pettis led the way in the first half with five points. As a team, Milligan was 8-of-26 (31%) from the field and 4-of-12 (33%) from the 3-point line. ETSU ended the half 19-of-32 (59%) from the floor and 5-of-14 (36%) from behind the arc.
 
   In the second half, the Buffaloes continued to fight as DeVault scored six points in the opening minutes of the half. ETSU continued stay hot offensively as they extend their lead to 55-28 five minutes in the frame. Milligan added points from Palaima and DeVault, but the Buccaneers answered with 16-0 run until Morgan McLeod (Hickory, N.C.) hit a bucket and Carpenter added a another basket with 7:36 left in the game.
 
   In the closing minutes of the game, Milligan saw John Crowe (Johnson City, Tenn.) hit consecutive shots and McLeod added another shot in the closing minutes. Senior Rob Larsen (Philadelphia, Pa.) also added two 3-pointers in the final minute.
 
   DeVault finished the game with 10 points, while Larsen finished the game with six points. Carpenter and Pettis tallied up five points apiece. Lester Wilson recorded a game high 27 points for the Buccaneers.
 
   As a team, Milligan finished the game 20-of-54 (37%) from the floor and 6-of-25 (24%) from behind the arc. ETSU finished the game 34-of-62 (55%) from the field and 11-of-27 (%) from the 3-point line.
 
   The Buffaloes return to action on Saturday, Dec. 1, as they host Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Montreat College. Game time inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse is slated for 4 p.m.
