Milligan College, Tenn. (Dec. 6, 2012) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team used a 15-0 run in the first half to pull away and never look back as they cruised to a 82-66 victory over nonconference foe Selma University inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on Thursday night. It was Milligan's third straight victory.

  The Buffaloes opened the game on a 5-0 run capped by a
Tyler DeVault (Kingsport, Tenn.) basket after a rebound and
Ignas Palaima (Lithunia) hit a jumper to give Milligan a 7-1 lead five minutes into the game.
Scott Blake (Greeneville, Tenn.) hit a 3-pointer to increase the Buffaloes lead to 11-1 with 12:49 left in the half.

Cartree Pettis (Oviedo, Fla.) hit a runner that sparked a 15-0 Milligan run that lasted over the next five minutes. After the Bulldogs broke the run with a basket,
Torian Sitton (Hendersonville, N.C.) started another 12-0 run for the Buffaloes as they held a 40-8 lead with four minutes left. Milligan maintained a 47-19 lead at the half.

Mickey Woods (Port Arthur, Tex.) and
Kurt Brooks (Newport, Tenn.) recorded 11 points apiece in the first half. As a team, Milligan was 14-of-32 (44%) from the floor and 4-of-9 (44%) from the 3-point line. Selma ended the half 5-of-37 (14%) from the field and 1-of-13 (1%) from behind the arc.

  In the second half, Pettis opened the scoring with a jumper as Milligan extended their lead to 54-21 in the opening minutes. The Bulldogs went on a 13-2 run to close the gap, but Milligan stopped the run with free throws from Sitton. The Buffaloes pulled out to a 65-37 lead midway through the half with points from Sitton and Pettis.

  Selma slowly cut in the Milligan lead as they pulled within 15 points with 3:32 left. However, Pettis hit a pair of free throws and DeVault added a basket to end the run and help preserve the victory.

  Woods lead the way with 18 points, while Sitton had 15 points. Pettis ended the game with 13 points. Brooks finished the game with 11 points.

  As a team, Milligan was 24-of-51 (47%) from the field and 4-of-11 (36%) from the 3-point line. Selma ended the game 22-of-73 (30%) from the floor and 5-of-24 (21%) from behind the arc.

  With the win, Milligan improves to 6-4 overall.
