Buffaloes baseball out powers TNU

Nashville, Tenn. (Feb. 14, 2012) --- The Milligan College baseball team picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday afternoon as they defeated Trevecca Nazarene University 19-11 in Nashville, Tenn.
 
   The Buffaloes opened the game quickly as they scored four runs in the top of the first, and then added seven runs in the second inning to take an 11-1 early lead. Milligan added another run in the third when Corey Hilton (Johnson City, Tenn.) crossed the plate, but the Trojans added five runs in the bottom of the frame to cut the Milligan lead to 12-6.
 
   After TNU added another run in the fourth, the Milligan offense added four runs on four hits to respond to the Trojan runs. Wesley Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.) hit a two-run home run in the sixth, and Dustin Clawson (Johnson City, Tenn.) drove Joe Purus (Hudson, N.C.) for Milligan's final run in the seventh.
 
   At the plate, Ryan White (Knoxville, Tenn.) was 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while Jones ended the game 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Purus and Hunter Carpenter (Sneedville, Tenn.) ended the game 3-for-5 and 2-for-3, respectively,
 
   On the mound, Logan Wright (Johnson City, Tenn.) picked up the win in relief duty. Tyler Wilson (Johnson City, Tenn.) got the nod as he gave up six runs on six hits.
 
   With the win, Milligan improves to 1-3 overall.
 
   The Buffaloes return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 15, when they travel to Cumberland University. Game time in Lebanon, Tenn., is slated for 1 p.m.
