Milligan softball drops two at Tusculum

Greenville, Tenn. (Feb. 15, 2012) --- The Milligan College softball team came up short in a nonconference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon as they dropped two games to NCAA D-II Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tenn. The Buffaloes fell 2-0 in the first game, and the Lady Pioneers took an 8-0 victory in the second game.
 
   In the day's first game, the Buffaloes were unable to answer a Tusculum run in the fourth inning. Milligan was unable to get a runner into scoring position in the next two innings, and the Lady Pioneers added their second run in the bottom of the sixth.
 
   Chancli Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.) was handed the loss in the pitching circle for the Buffaloes. Connatser went the distance and allowed two runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
 
   At the plate, Brittany DiRobbio (Ovieda, Fla.) and freshman Sarah Arrowood (Asheville, N.C.) went 1-for-2, while Camille Olvey (Maryville, Tenn.) and Abby Hughes (Rogersville, Tenn.) went 1-for-3.
 
   The day's second game saw Tusculum score four runs in the third to take the early lead. The Buffaloes got a runner to third base in the fourth, but they were unable to get them across home plate. The Lady Pioneers scored four more runs in the fifth to take the victory.
 
   Krista Lambdin (Knoxville, Tenn.) was 2-for-2 at the plate, while Olvey was 1-for-3. Maleah Wolfenbarger (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Hughes were both 1-for-2. In the pitching circle, freshman Megan Nicol (Surry, British Columbia) was handed the loss. In three innings pitched, Nicol gave up four runs on four hits.
 
   Milligan falls to 0-4 overall.
 
   The Buffaloes are slated to return to action on Friday, Feb. 17, when they travel to UVA-Wise. Game time in Wise, Va., is slated for 2 p.m.
