Milligan College, Tenn. (Feb. 18, 2012) --- The Milligan College baseball team split a nonconference doubleheader with Concordia (Mich.) College on Saturday afternoon at Anglin Field. The Buffaloes fell 10-4 in the first game, and then rallied from a four-run deficit to take a 8-7 victory in 10 innings during the nightcap.

  The Cardinals put four runs on the board in the top of the first, and Milligan responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning as
Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) and
Wesley Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.) cross the plate. Both teams added a run in the third, but Concordia scored five runs over the next three innings to pull away for the victory.

Tyler Walker (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) was handed the loss on the mound. In four innings pitched, Walker gave up seven hits and six runs with five strikeouts.
Derek Long (Jackson, Tenn.) pitched three innings of relief and allowed four runs on four hits.

  At the plate,
Kyle Kolat (South Bend, Ind.) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and
Cory Hilton (Johnson City, Tenn.) ended the game 1-for-3.

  After Concordia scored a run to open the nightcap, the Buffaloes answered when Kirk came across the plate on a Hilton single. Both teams put two runs on the board during the third, then the Cardinals scored a run in the fourth and three in the fifth to take a 7-3 lead.

  The Buffaloes bounced back with a two-run homerun from
Hunter Carpenter (Sneedville, Tenn.), and
Blake Buck (Maryville, Tenn.) hit a solo homerun as the Buffaloes tied the game with a four run inning in the bottom of the sixth. In the next three innings, neither team was able to bring a runner to take the victory. However, Milligan picked up their third win of the season when Kolat drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 10
th.

  At the plate, Kirk and Buck were 2-for-4, while Carpenter was 2-for-5. On the mound,
Josh Hullett (Knoxville, Tenn.) got the start. In just over four innings of work, Hullett gave up seven runs on 11 hits.
Jake Howell (Johnson City, Tenn.) picked up the win as he did not allow a run or hit in four innings of work.

  With the split, Milligan moves to 4-6 overall.

  The Buffaloes are slated to return to action on Saturday, Feb. 25, when they host former AAC foe UVA-Wise for a doubleheader. Game time at Anglin Field is slated for 1 p.m.
