Milligan baseball halves doubleheader with UVA-Wise

Milligan College, Tenn. (Feb. 26, 2012) --- The Milligan College baseball team split a nonconference series with former AAC foe UVA-Wise at Anglin Field on Sunday afternoon. The Buffaloes fell 5-3 in the day's opening game, but bounced back to take a 10-0 victory in the evening contest.

In the first game of the day, the Buffaloes jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Kyle Kolat (South Bend, Ind.) hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the second. However, the Cavaliers put a run on the board in the top of the fourth, and then put three more up in the top of the fifth. Milligan added a single run in both the sixth and seventh innings, but was unable to get back in front of the Cavaliers.

The second game saw Kolat cross the plate in the second inning to give Milligan an early 1-0 lead. The Buffaloes added to their advantage when they put four runs on the board in the fifth. They kept the offense going in the sixth as they added five more runs to take the victory.

Derek Long (Jackson, Tenn.) got the shutout in a complete game effort. Long allowed just four hits and struck out three UVA-Wise batters.

At the plate, Cory Hilton (Johnson City, Tenn.) was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while Ryan White (Knoxville, Tenn.) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Jones finished the game 3-for-4.

With the split, Milligan moves to 6-8 overall.
