Milligan College, Tenn. (Feb. 28, 2012) --- The Milligan College softball split a nonconference doubleheader with former AAC foe UVA-Wise on Tuesday afternoon at Anglin Field. The Buffaloes won the first game 9-0 in six innings, but saw a late rally fall short as they fell 6-4 to the Lady Cavaliers in the afternoon game.
ÂÂ
After keeping UVA-Wise off the board to start the game, the Buffaloes saw
Camille Olvey (Maryville, Tenn.) score off a
Brittany DiRobbio (Oviedo, Fla.) double.
Sarah Arrowood (Asheville, N.C.) drove DiRobbio across the plate to give Milligan a 2-0 lead at the end of the first.
ÂÂ
The second and third innings went scoreless, but the Buffaloes put two more runs on the board when
Emily Biggs (Kingsport, Tenn.) and
Abby Hughes (Rogersville, Tenn.) crossed home plate in the bottom of the fourth. Milligan secured the win in the sixth when they scored three runs.
ÂÂ
  In the pitching circle,
Chancli Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.) picked up her fifth win of the season. Connatser pitched the entire game as she allowed just three hits and struck out eight Lady Cavalier batters.
ÂÂ
DiRobbio led the way at the plate for Milligan as she went 3-for-4. Arrowood and Hughes both went 2-for-3, while
Krista Lambdin (Knoxville, Tenn.) ended the game 2-for-4.
ÂÂ
In the second game, neither team was able to get a run on the board until the Lady Cavaliers scored five runs in the top of the sixth. UVA-Wise scored a run in the top of the seventh, but the Buffaloes made a charge in the bottom of the seventh. DiRobbio drove two runs across the plate for Milligan, and then
Krista Lambdin (Knoxville, Tenn.) added two more RBIs for the Buffaloes. However, the Buffaloes were unable to sustain the run to even the game up.
ÂÂ
At the plate, DiRobbio was 2-for-3, while Hughes was 1-for-3. Connatser was handed the loss in the pitching circle. In seven innings of work, Connatser gave up three earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
ÂÂ
With the split, Milligan moves to 6-8 overall.
ÂÂ
The Buffaloes return to action on Monday, March 5, when they kickoff the Boombah Smash Hit tournament in Beaufort, S.C. The Buffaloes open the tournament against Findley University and Malone University.
