Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Buffaloes men's basketball outlasts Bryan

Milligan College, Tenn. (Feb. 4, 2012) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak on Saturday evening as they defeated Bryan College 77-71 in AAC play inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

The teams traded baskets to open the game before Bryan ran out to a 10-6 lead five minutes into the game. The Buffaloes responded with a pair of 3-pointers from Mickey Woods (Port Arthur, Tex.) that led to nine straight Milligan points to take the lead for the first time.

After Bryan went on a 8-0 run, Kyle Grisby (Charlotte, N.C.) drained a 3-pointer, and the Buffaloes ran out to a 25-20 lead with six minutes left in the half as they kept the Lions scoreless for over four minutes. The Buffaloes extended their lead back to seven, but a Bryan shot late in the half gave Milligan a 38-34 lead at the break.

Grisby and Woods led the way in the half with 11 points. As a team, Milligan was 16-of-25 (64%) from the floor and 3-of-7 (43%) from the 3-point line. Bryan ended the half 14-of-31 (45%) from the floor and 2-of-7 (29%) from behind the arc.

Bryan quickly closed the gap one point to start the second half, but Torian Sitton (Hendersonville, N.C.) scored five of the next seven points to go up 45-37 three minutes into the half. The Buffaloes went up by 11 points midway through the half with two 3-pointers from Grisby.

The Buffaloes maintained the advantage over the next five minutes with free throws from Cordero Seymour (Inagua, Bahamas) and Marshall Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.). Bryan cut the Milligan lead to 68-62 with just under five minutes to play, but a Sitton slam and Hardy added two free throws and a jumper with 2:52 left put Milligan up 75-64. The Lions tried to make a fun in the closing minutes, but the Buffaloes kept the Lions at bay to preserve the victory.

Grisby led the way with 20 points and six assists. Woods recorded 15 points, while Hardy and Seymour had 10 points apiece. Hardy had a team high seven rebounds. As a team, the Buffaloes were 27-of-47 (57%) from the floor and 7-of-12 (58%) from the 3-point line. Bryan finished the night 29-of-61 (47%) from the field and 4-of-17 (24%) from behind the arc.

With the win, Milligan improves to 9-14 overall and 5-8 in AAC action, while Bryan falls to 11-15 overall and 6-6 in league play.

The Buffaloes return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 8, when they travel to Union (Ky.) College for an AAC clash. Game time in Barbourville, Ky., is slated for 7:30 p.m.
