Milligan baseball drops AAC doubleheader to TWC

Milligan College, Tenn. (March 10, 2012) --- The Milligan College baseball team dropped an AAC doubleheader to No. 18 Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at Anglin Field. The Buffaloes fell behind early and could never recover as they fell 9-4 in the first game, and then they saw a late rally fall short as they dropped the second game 8-3.
 
   In the first game, the Buffaloes fell behind early as TWC scored four runs in the top of the first. Milligan added a run of their own in the bottom of the inning when Wesley Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.) crossed the plate after hitting a leadoff triple. The Bulldogs added a run in the third to take a 5-1 lead after three innings of play.
 
   The fourth inning saw TWC get back on the scoreboard as they had four runs cross home plate. The Buffaloes battled back in the bottom of the sixth as Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) and Cory Hilton (Johnson City, Tenn.) crossed the plate, and then Joe Purus (Hudson, N.C.) scored off a Kirk single in the seventh before the Buffaloes were unable to continue the rally.
                                          
  On the mound, Ethan Fleenor (Johnson City, Tenn.) was handed the loss. In five innings of work, Fleenor allowed nine runs on eight hits with four strikeouts. Kirk led the way at the plate as he went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Tyree Jefferies (Jackson, Tenn.) went 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Kyle Kolat (South Bend, Ind.), Nathan Millsap (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Jones added a hit apiece.
 
   The second game saw the Buffaloes fall behind early as they trailed 6-0 after three innings of play. Milligan got on the board when Jones scored on a Kolat batted ball in the home side of the fourth. The Buffaloes continued to cut into the Bulldogs lead as Purus and Millsap crossed the plate in the fifth. After TWC added two more runs in the top of the seventh, Milligan was unable to respond.
  
   Ryan White (Knoxville, Tenn.) led the way at the plate as he was 2-for-2 with a RBI. Kolat was 1-for-3 with a RBI, and Brandon Malone (Kingsport, Tenn.) also added a RBI for the Buffaloes.
 
   Sean Robinson (Knoxville, Tenn.) was handed the loss. In three innings of work, Robinson gave up six runs on seven hits. In relief duty, Derek Long (Jackson, Tenn.) allowed two runs on five hits in four innings of work.
 
   Milligan drops to 2-3 in conference play and 11-13 overall, while Tennessee Wesleyan improves to 5-0 in AAC action and 19-5 overall.
 
   The Buffaloes and Bulldogs return to action on Sunday, March 11, as they square off in a nine-inning contest to wrap up the AAC series. First pitch at Anglin Field is slated for 2 p.m.
