Buffaloes baseball falls in AAC matchup

Milligan College, Tenn. (March 11, 2012) --- The Milligan College baseball came up short in an AAC matchup on Sunday afternoon as they fell 13-3 to No. 18 Tennessee Wesleyan in a nine-inning contest at Anglin Field.
 
   After a scoreless first inning, the Buffaloes opened the scoring in the home side of the second when Kyle Kolat (South Bend, Ind.) scored on a Hunter Carpenter (Sneedville, Tenn.) single as Milligan took an early 1-0 lead. However, the Bulldogs scored the next 12 runs over the next five innings to pull away from the Buffaloes.
 
   Milligan got back on the board in the bottom of the eighth when Wesley Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.) scored off a Tyree Jefferies (Jackson, Tenn.) single, and then Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) drove in the last Milligan run in the ninth inning.
 
   Kirk led the way at the plate with as he went 3-for-5 with one RBI. Jefferies and Carpenter were both 2-for-4, and both recorded a RBI.
 
   On the mound, freshman Jake Watts (Boone, N.C.) was handed the loss. In just over four innings of work, Watts allowed six runs on seven hits.
 
   With the loss, Milligan drops to 11-14 overall and 2-4 in AAC action, while Tennessee Wesleyan improves to 20-5 overall and 6-0 in conference play.
 
   The Buffaloes are slated to return to action on Tuesday, March 13, when they host Roanoke College at Anglin Field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
