Milligan College, Tenn. (March 21, 2012) --- The Milligan College softball team split an AAC doubleheader with Virginia Intermont on Wednesday afternoon in Bristol, Va. The Buffaloes were unable to bounce back after a four-run fourth inning in the first game as they fell 6-1, but rallied back to take the second game 2-1.

  The Buffaloes opened the scoring in the first game when
Abby Hughes (Rogersville, Tenn.) scored on a
Camille Olvey (Maryville, Tenn.) double. However, the Lady Cobras scored four runs in the fourth inning and then added two more in the sixth to take the victory.

  Olvey ended the game 1-for-2, while
Makenzie Lilley (Kingsport, Tenn.),
Maleah Wolfenbarger (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Hughes ended the game 1-for-3. In the pitching circle,
Chancli Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.) was handed the loss as she gave up four earned runs on seven hits.

  In the second game, Milligan quickly took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Olvey drove
Krista Lambdin (Knoxville, Tenn.) across the plate. Freshman
Megan Nicol (Surry, British Columbia) added another run in the second with a solo homerun. VI put a run on the board in the bottom of the fourth, but that was the only run the Buffaloes would give up in the game.

  Freshman
Samantha Mahala (Mountain City, Tenn.) picked up the win as she gave up just one run on five hits. Lambdin ended the game 2-for-3, while
Kelsey Simmons (Elizabethton, Tenn.) went 1-for-1. Olvey was 1-for-2 at the plate.

  With the split, Milligan moves to 3-1 in AAC action and 16-12 overall.

  The Buffaloes return to action on Thursday, March 22, when they host Bryan College at Anglin Field. First pitch in the AAC doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m.
