Milligan softball sweeps home doubleheader

Milligan College, Tenn. (March 22, 2012) --- The Milligan College softball team picked up a sweep of AAC foe Bryan College on Thursday afternoon at Anglin Field. The Buffaloes pulled away early to take a 7-3 win in the first game, and then held off a Lady Lions rally to take a 4-3 victory.
 
   The Buffaloes opened the first game with a run in the bottom of the first when Maleah Wolfenbarger (Knoxville, Tenn.) drove in freshman Sarah Arrowood (Asheville, N.C.). After Bryan answered with a run of their own in the second, Camille Olvey (Maryville, Tenn.) drove in Abby Hughes (Rogersville, Tenn.) and Emily Biggs (Kingsport, Tenn.), and then Milligan added two more before the end of the frame. The Buffaloes scored two more runs in the fourth, and then stopped a Bryan rally in the seventh inning to preserve the victory.
 
   Krista Lambdin (Knoxville, Tenn.) was 3-for-4 with one RBI, and Arrowood was 2-for-3. Wolfenbarger was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Olvety added two more RBIs for the Buffaloes.
 
   In the pitching circle, Chancli Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.) picked up the win as he allowed one run on three hits with eight strikeouts.
 
  After the first two innings went scoreless to start the second, Olvey opened the scoring when she drove in Abby Hughes (Rogersville, Tenn.). The Lady Lions responded with a run of their own in the visiting side of the fourth, but Kelsey Simmons (Elizabethton, Tenn.) and Arrowood crossed the plate for Milligan to put two more runs on the board.
 
   The Buffaloes were led by Wolfenbarger as she recorded a 1-for-3, while Lacy Huskins (Elizabethton, Tenn.) was 1-for-2 at the plate.
 
   Connatser picked up her second win of the day as she recorded one run on eight hits.  
 
   With the sweep, Milligan improves to 18-12 overall and 5-1 in AAC action.
 
   The Buffaloes return to action on Tuesday, March 27, when they travel to AAC foe Montreat College for a doubleheader. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
