Milligan baseball wraps up AAC series with split

West Point, Ga. (March 24, 2012) --- The Milligan College baseball team wrapped up their AAC series with conference newcomer Point University with a split on Saturday afternoon in West Point, Ga. The Buffaloes were unable to overtake the Skyhawks in the first game as they fell 7-4, but Milligan used a strong start to take a 8-7 win in the second game.
 
   After the first game went scoreless for the first three innings, Point put four runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Freshman Nathan Millsap (Kingsport, Tenn.) crossed the plate to give Milligan their first run of the day in the top of the fifth, and then Cory Hilton (Johnson City, Tenn.), Ryan White (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Millsap scored for the Buffaloes in the visiting side of the sixth. However, Point put three more runs on the board in the bottom of the frame to preserve their win.
 
   Hilton was 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Buffaloes, while Wesley Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.) was 2-for-3. Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) ended the game 2-for-4.
 
   On the mound, Cody Compton (Lebanon,Va.) was handed the loss as he allowed three runs and three hits. Ethan Fleenor (Johnson City, Tenn.) got the starting nod and gave up four runs on eight hits.
 
   In the second game of the day, Joe Purus (Hudson, N.C.) drove Kyle Kolat (South Bend, Ind.) and Kirk across home plate to open the scoring. The Buffaloes continued to keep the offense hot in the second as Purus hit a three-run homerun as Milligan scored six runs in the frame. However, Point tried to rally with seven runs over a three inning stretch, but Milligan held onto the victory.
 
   Purus was 3-for-3 with five RBIs, while Kirk was 4-for-5 with two RBIs. Jones ended the game 2-for-5.
 
   Sean Robinson (Knoxville, Tenn.) got the start and the win on the mound. Robinson allowed five earned runs on eight hits and had six strikeouts.
 
   With the split, Milligan moves to 16-18 overall and 4-5 in AAC action.
 
   The Buffaloes return to action on Wednesday, March 28, when they host nonconference foe Southern Wesleyan at Anglin Field. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
