Kolat leads Buffaloes baseball in sweep of Montreat

Milligan College, Tenn. (March 31, 2012) --- The Milligan College baseball team used a solid performance from Kyle Kolat (South Bend, Ind.) to sweep AAC foe Montreat College on Saturday afternoon at Anglin Field. The Buffaloes overcame a four-run second inning by Montreat to take the first game 6-4, and then saw Kolat record five RBIs in a 5-4 game to close the day.
 
   In the first game, the Buffaloes opened the scoring when Kolat drove Wesley Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) across home plate to take an early 2-0 lead. However, the Cavaliers responded with four runs of their own in the top of the second, but Milligan regained the lead in the home side of the third when Cory Hilton (Johnson City, Tenn.), Joe Purus (Hudson, N.C.) and Kolat scored runs to put the Buffaloes up 5-4 after three innings. Milligan added their final run in the sixth with Hilton hit Kolat across home plate.
 
   At the plate, Ryan White (Knoxville, Tenn.) was 3-for-3, and Hilton ended the game 2-for-2. Kolat was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Purus finished the game 2-for-4.
 
   Ethan Fleenor (Johnson City, Tenn.) picked up the win on the mound as he allowed four runs on eight hits.
 
   The second game saw Montreat open the scoring in the top of the second when they put four runs on the board. In the bottom of the third, Milligan responded with three runs of their own when Nathan Millsap (Kingsport, Tenn.), Jones and Kirk scored off a Kolat hit. Kolat struck again in the fifth with a double that scored Jones and Kirk.
 
   Kolat ended the game 3-for-3 with five RBIs. Kirk and Jones were both 2-for-3. Freshman Jake Watts (Boone, N.C.) picked up the win as he allowed four runs and had seven strikeouts in five innings of work.
 
   With the sweep, Milligan improves to 7-7 in AAC action and 18-19 overall.
 
   The Buffaloes and Cavaliers return to action on Sunday, April 1, for a nine-inning contest at Anglin Field. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
