Buffaloes baseball outpowers Bryan

Dayton, Tenn. (March 5, 2012) --- The Milligan College baseball team used four homeruns to outpower AAC foe Bryan College 12-7 in a nine-inning contest on Monday afternoon in Dayton, Tenn.
 
   Wesley Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.) opened the game with a leadoff homerun, his third of the series, and then Joe Purus (Hudson, N.C.) hit a solo homerun in the second to give Milligan a 2-0 lead. However, Bryan put five runs on the board in the bottom of the second to pull back in front after two innings of play.
 
   Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) crossed the plate for Milligan in the top of the fourth to add a run. The Buffaloes offense got hot in the fifth inning as Kyle Kolat (South Bend, Ind.) hit a two-run shot and then Tyree Jefferies (Jackson, Tenn.) got a solo homerun. Milligan tacked on single runs in the sixth, seventh and ninth to pull away for the victory.    
 
   On the mound, Jake Watts (Boone, N.C.) picked up the win in four innings of work. Watts allowed five runs on five hits.
 
   Jones led the way at the plate as he was 4-for-6, and Purus was 3-for-4. Kirk and Jefferies ended the game 2-for-4.
 
   With the win, Milligan improves to 2-1 in conference play and moves to 8-11 overall.
 
   The Buffaloes return to the field on Tuesday, March 6, for a nonconference doubleheader at Truett-McConnell. Game time is slated for 12 p.m., in Cleveland, Ga.
