Buffaloes baseball rallies past Shorter

Rome, Ga.  (March 7, 2012) --- The Milligan College baseball team used a six-run eighth inning to rally past Shorter University by a score of 9-7 to win their fourth straight game on Wednesday afternoon in Rome, Ga.
 
   After both teams put a run on the board in the first inning, but the Eagles added four run over the course of the next two innings to take a 5-1 lead after the third inning. Milligan got back on the board in the 5th to close the gap. Wesley Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.) drove in three runs with a double as Milligan scored six runs to take the lead in the top of the eighth to take the victory.
 
   Cory Hilton (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Tyree Jefferies (Jackson, Tenn.) were 2-for-5, while Jones was 1-for-3 with three RBIs. Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) also had two RBIs for the Buffaloes.
 
   On the mound, Ryan Valentine (Springfield, Ohio) picked up the win in two innings of work. Valentine did not give up a hit or run and struck out three batters.
 
   Milligan improves to 11-11 on the season.
 
   The Buffaloes return to action on Saturday, March 10, when they host Tennessee Wesleyan for a conference doubleheader. First pitch at Anglin Field is slated for 1 p.m.
