Buffaloes softball splits on final day of Smash Hit tournament

Beaufort, S.C.  (March 7, 2012) --- The Milligan College softball split a pair of games on their final day at the 2012 Boombah Smash Hit Tournament in Beaufort, S.C., on Wednesday afternoon. The Buffaloes defeated Malone 6-3, but fell to Walsh University by a score of 9-0.
 
   Against Malone, the Buffaloes fell behind 2-0, but tied the game with runs in the second and third inning. Milligan pulled ahead as they scored three runs in the fourth and added another in the fifth to take the victory.
 
   Megan Nicol (Surry, British Columbia) picked up the win in the pitching circle. In five innings of work, Nicol allowed just one run on four hits and struck out five batters.
 
   At the plate, freshman Sarah Arrowood (Asheville, N.C.) was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Krista Lambdin (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Kelsey Simmons (Elizabethton, Tenn.) were both 2-for-4, while Camille Olvey (Maryville, Tenn.) was 2-for-3.
 
   In the second game, Walsh led the game 1-0 after three innings of play, but pulled away from the Buffaloes with four runs in the fourth inning. Milligan was unable to record a hit against the Walsh defense.
 
   Chancli Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.) was handed the loss in two innings of work as she gave up one hit and one run.
 
   Milligan moves to 10-10 on the season.
 
   The Buffaloes are slated to return to action on Friday, March 9, when they host nonconference foe University of the Cumberlands. Game time is slated for 2 p.m., at Anglin Field.
