Buffaloes softball picks up a pair of nonconference wins

Milligan College, Tenn. (March 9, 2012) --- The Milligan College softball team swept nonconference foe University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) on Friday afternoon at Anglin Field. The Buffaloes posted a 3-1 win over the Lady Patriots in the day's opener, and then used a six-run fifth inning to take a 7-1 win in the second game.
 
   After the first game saw the first two innings go scoreless, the Buffaloes put two runs on the board in the home side of the third inning. Milligan kept the Lady Patriots from scoring a run in the top of the fourth, and then added a run themselves in the bottom of the frame. UC scored a run in the sixth, but that was the only run they could score in the game.
 
   In the pitching circle, Chancli Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.) picked up the win in six innings of work. Connatser allowed four hits and did not allow a run.
 
   At the plate, Krista Lambdin (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Megan Nicol (Surry, British Columbia) were both 2-for-2. Maleah Wolfenbarger (Knoxville, Tenn.) was 1-for-2 with a RBI. Sarah Arrowood (Asheville, Tenn.) and Lambdin also added a RBI apiece.
 
   In the second game, Milligan took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Rachel Ingleby (Knoxville, Tenn.) drove Nicol cross the plate. The sixth inning saw Milligan take advantage of five Lady Patriot's errors as the Buffaloes put six runs on the board to take the victory. 
 
   Connatser picked up her second win of the day in the game. In five innings of work, Connater allowed just one run on two hits and recorded four strikeouts.
 
   At the plate, Ingleby led the way as she went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Makenzie Lilley (Kingsport, Tenn.) was 2-for-4, while Sierra Plese (Knoxville, Tenn.) was 1-for-1 with a RBI. Camille Olvey (Maryville, Tenn.) added two RBIs for Milligan.
 
   The Buffaloes improve to 12-10 overall.
 
   Milligan opens the AAC portion of their schedule on Tuesday, March 13, when they travel to Bluefield (Va.) College for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
