Mobile, Ala. (Aug. 24, 2012) --- The Milligan College volleyball team came up short in two games on opening day on Friday in Mobile, Ala. The Buffaloes dropped the first game 3-0 to No. 12 Spring Hill College, and then dropped the second game to University of Mobile 3-0 in the nightcap.

  In the day's first game, the Buffaloes were unable to keep pace with the nationally ranked Badgers in the first set as fell 25-13. Spring Hill took the second set 25-15, and then captured the match with a 25-21 victory in the decisive third set.

Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) recorded 25 assists in the match, while
Rachel Renville (Broomfield, Colo.) had 12 kills.
Holly English (Kingsport, Tenn.) and
Kylie Whaley (Maryville, Tenn.) had seven kills apiece. English also had a team high 12 digs.

  The second game saw Milligan unable to overcome a 12-0 run by the Lady Rams as they dropped the first set 25-16. Milligan battled back in the second set before falling 25-21, and then was unable to extend the match as they fell 25-23 in the third set.

  Whaley led the way with seven kills, while English had eight digs and six kills. Senior
Katelin Henson (Kingsport, Tenn.) also had eight digs. Spivey ended the match with 22 assists.

  “It was a little bit of a rocky start for us, but I feel like we got better in every set today,” Head Coach
Doneva Bays said. “Ball control was a big factor for us today. However, we will continue to grow and gel, and this weekend will give us a wealth of experience.”

  The Buffaloes return to action on Saturday, Aug. 25, with matches slated against Southeastern University and Tougaloo. Action is slated to begin at 10 a.m. ÂÂ
