Buffaloes women's soccer sees AAC opener end in tie

Milligan College, Tenn. (Aug. 28, 2012) --- The Milligan College women's soccer team saw their Appalachian Athletic Conference opener with St. Andrews University end in a 1-1 tie on Tuesday afternoon at Anglin Field.
 
   The Buffaloes struck first in the 15th minute when Lauren Brewer (Knoxville, Tenn.) got the ball past the Knights keeper with a header. St. Andrews evened the score in the 32nd minute with a goal from Hannah Wilson. Neither team could strike again in the first half as they headed into the locker room for half time.
 
   The Buffaloes saw shots by Teagan Woods (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Brewer saved by Brittany Roberts, and Milligan countered with saves from Lauren McInturff (Kingsport, Tenn.). In the final three minutes, Brewer saw Roberts save two shots to send the game into overtime.
 
   The first overtime saw neither team able to break onto the scoreboard. Despite a hard fought effort from the Buffaloes in the second half, the stalemate was unable to be broken before time expired.
 
   McInturff ended the game with six saves.
 
   “Today wasn't our best performance, but the work rate was outstanding,” Head Coach Lisa Buckley said. “As a team, we decided to dedicate this game to Dr. Jeanes, and with the work they put forth today, I couldn't be prouder.”
 
   With the tie, Milligan moves to 1-0-1 on the season, while St. Andrews opens their season 0-0-1.
 
   The Buffaloes return to action on Friday, Aug. 31, when they open the Union University Classic in Jackson, Tenn. Milligan will open the tournament against Missouri Baptist. The match is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
