Milligan women's basketball falls to TWC

Milligan College, Tenn. (Jan. 12, 2013) --- The Milligan College women's basketball team saw a four game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon as they fell 57-44 to Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Tennessee Wesleyan inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
 
   The Lady Bulldogs came out of the gate quickly as they ran out to a 13-4 lead five minutes in as the Buffaloes saw Johneshia Good (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Kayla Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) score. Good answered the run with three straight 3-pointers as Milligan trimmed their deficit to 18-13 midway through the half.
 
   After Tennessee Wesleyan went on a 11-0 run over the next five minutes, the Buffaloes responded with a 3-pointer from Callie Cox (Knoxville, Tenn.) to stop the run. Milligan slowly cut into the gap as they outscored the Lady Bulldogs 6-2 over the final four minutes to trail 34-22 at the half.
 
   Good led the way for Milligan in the first half with 11 points. As a team, the Buffaloes were 9-for-32 (28%) from the field and 4-of-20 (20%) from behind the arc. TWC ended the half 14-of-30 (47%) from the floor and 5-of-10 (50%) from behind the 3-point line.
 
   The Buffaloes opened the second half on a 7-2 run sparked by a Good 3-pointer and four straight points from Kelly. After TWC scored a basket to end a six minute drought, Tracy Hardiman (Kingsport, Tenn.) hit back-to-back baskets as the Buffaloes pulled with five points midway through the half
 
   Kelly and Hardiman hit baskets to help the Buffaloes cut the gap to 43-40 with 8:31 left in the game, but the Lady Bulldogs answered with a 9-0 run to take an 11-point lead with five minutes left in the game. Milligan added points from Good and Kelly, but they were unable to close the gap before time expired.
 
   Good led the way for Milligan as she ended the game with 18 points. Kelly finished with 14 points. As a team, the Buffaloes finished the game 18-of-66 (27%) from the field and 7-of-36 (19%) from the 3-point line. Tennessee Wesleyan finished the game 21-of-48 (44%) from the floor and 6-of-17 (35%) from behind the arc.
  
   With the win, Milligan falls to 6-1 in AAC action on 13-6 overall, while TWC improves to 5-2 in conference play and 8-7 overall.
 
   The Buffaloes return to nonconference action on Monday, Jan. 14, as they travel to West Virginia Tech. Game time in Berkeley, W.V., is set for 7 p.m.
