Milligan College, Tenn. (Jan. 19, 2013) --- The Milligan College women's basketball team jumped out early and never looked back as they picked up a 71-48 victory over Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Point University inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

  The Buffaloes opened the game with a 3-pointer from
Dorian Freeman (Augusta, Ga.) and
Jamiee Hill (Johnson City, Tenn.) added four quick points to put Milligan up 7-0 five minutes into the game. After Point scored their first four points of the game,
Kayla Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and
Johneshia Good (Johnson City, Tenn.) hit baskets, but the Lady Skyhawks pulled with three points with just over 11 minutes remaining in the half.

Callie Cox (Knoxville, Tenn.) hit a jump shot to spark a 7-0 run, and the Buffaloes used another run capped by five straight points from Kelly to take a 31-13 lead with just under four minutes left in the frame. The final minutes of the half saw the teams trade shots as Kelly hit a 3-pointer in the final seconds to give Milligan a 38-21 lead at the half.

  Kelly led the way in the half with 11 points, while Hill had 10 points. As a team, the Buffaloes were 13-of-34 (38%) from the field and 3-of-13 (23%) from behind the arc. Point finished the half 8-of-32 (25%) from the floor and 2-of-6 (33%) from behind the 3-point line.

  Freeman opened the second half scoring with a jumper, and
Tracy Hardiman (Maryville, Tenn.) and Good hit back-to-back baskets to increase their lead to 23 points in the opening minutes. The teams traded shots as Milligan maintained a 53-29 lead five minutes into the half.

  The Buffaloes extended their lead with a 5-0 run, and they held a 60-32 lead with 10 minutes to play in the game. From there, the Milligan defense kept Point at bay to preserve the victory.

  Freeman led the Buffaloes with 15 points, while Kelly finished with 14 points. Good tallied 11 points. Hill ended the game with 10 points.

  As a team, Milligan finished the game 25-of-61 (41%) from the field and 5-of-19 (26%) from behind the arc, while the Buffaloes limited Point to 18-of-67 (27%) from the floor and 5-of-18 (28%) from behind the 3-point line.

  With the win, Milligan improves to 15-7 overall and 8-1 in AAC action, while Point falls to 1-8 in conference play and 3-17 overall.
