No. 22 Milligan women's basketball wins fifth straight game

Milligan College, Tenn. (Jan. 29, 2013) --- The No. 22 Milligan College women's basketball team picked up their fifth Appalachian Athletic Conference victory on Tuesday night as they dispatched St. Andrews University 81-53 inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
 
   Tracy Hardiman (Maryville, Tenn.) opened the scoring for the Buffaloes with a pair of 3-pointers and Jamiee Hill (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Johneshia Good (Johnson City, Tenn.) added a basket apiece to give Milligan a 10-2 lead in the opening minutes. The Buffaloes pushed their lead to 16-6 with 13 minutes to play as Chelsey Weddle (Hampton, Tenn.) scored on a lay-up with an assist from Kayla Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.).
 
   Milligan struck again as Hardiman hit her third 3-pointer of the night to spark a 13-0 Milligan run capped by a Hill lay-up with just under seven minutes left in the half gave the Buffaloes a 31-11 advantage. Milligan maintained the advantage for the remainder of the half as they took a 46-23 lead at the half.
 
    Hardiman led the way with 10 points, while Weddle ended the half with nine points. The Buffaloes saw seven players score in the half.
 
   As a team, the Buffaloes were 18-of-31 (58%) from the field and 3-of-10 (30%) from behind the arc, while the Lady Knights were 11-of-36 (31%) from the floor and 1-of-8 (13%) from behind the arc.
 
   The second half saw Dorian Freeman (Augusta, Ga.) score the first four points for Milligan as the Buffaloes extended their lead to 59-33 with 14:41 left to play. After four straight points from St. Andrews, Good sparked a 13-2 run capped by five and four points from Cox and Allison Jones (Morristown, Tenn.) as Milligan held a 72-39 advantage with 7:34 left to play. The Buffaloes maintained the advantage for the remainder of the game to secure the victory.
 
    Hardiman finished with 12 points to pace the Buffaloes, while Freeman and Weddle had 11 points apiece. Kelly finished with 10 points. Hill and Good had nine and eight points, respectively.
 
   As a team, the Buffaloes were 32-of-66 (49%) from the floor and 5-of-19 (26%) from the 3-point line. St. Andrews finished the game 23-of-73 (31%) from the field and 5-of-18 (28%) from behind the arc.
 
   With the win, Milligan improves to 18-7 overall and 11-1 in AAC action, while St. Andrews falls to 3-18 overall and 1-11 in conference play.
 
   The Buffaloes return to action on Thursday, Jan. 31, as they travel to AAC foe Reinhardt University. Game time in Waleska, Ga., is slated for 5:30 p.m.
