Milligan women's basketball wins fifth straight AAC game

Milligan College, Tenn. (Jan. 8, 2013) --- The Milligan College women's basketball team remained undefeated in Appalachian Athletic Conference play as they held off Bryan College for a 61-54 victory on Tuesday evening inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
 
   The teams traded shots to open the game until Jaimee Hill (Johnson City, Tenn.) hit a jumper and Tracy Hardiman (Maryville, Tenn.) scored on a lay-up to put the Buffaloes up 10-4 six minutes into the half. Milligan maintained the advantage over the next four minutes, but Bryan used a run to regain the lead with five minutes remaining in the half.
 
   Kayla Kelly (Chattanooga, Ten.) sparked an 11-0 run for Milligan with a jumper to give Milligan a 31-22 lead. The Buffaloes maintained the advantage for the final three minutes of the half to take a 35-28 lead into halftime.
 
   Kelly led the way for Milligan with 10 points. As a team, Milligan was 11-of-34 (32%) from the field and 2-of-15 (13%) from the 3-point line. Bryan finished the half 12-of-32 (38%) from the floor and 2-of-6 (33%) from behind the arc.
 
   In the second half, Hardiman opened the scoring with a pair of free throws, but Bryan slowly cut into the Milligan lead as the Buffaloes held a 37-34 with 13 minutes left in the game. Hill took advantage of a 3-point play and Kelly hit a jumper to push the Milligan lead back out to eight points.
 
   Over the next five minutes, the Buffaloes maintained the advantage until Good and Hill pushed the lead to 11 points with just over four minutes to play. The Lady Lions went on a quick run in the final minutes to cut the Milligan lead to four points, but the Buffaloes secured the win at the free throw line.
 
   Hill led the way with a double-double as she had 14-points and 11 rebounds. Kelly and Good had 14 points apiece, while Dorian Freeman (Augusta, Ga.) tallied 10 rebounds. Morgan Burnette led Bryan with 19 points.
 
   As a team, Milligan ended the game 20-of-68 (29%) from the field and 4-of-25 (16%) from the 3-point line. Bryan finished the game 24-of-59 (41%) from the floor and 3-of-11 (27%) from behind the arc.
 
   With the win, the Buffaloes move into sole possession in the AAC with a 5-0 record and improve to 12-5 overall. Bryan falls to 7-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
 
   Milligan returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 8, as they travel to No. 18 Union (Ky.) College. Game time in Barbourville, Ky., is slated for 5:30 p.m.
