Milligan volleyball unable to rally at Union

Barbourville, Ky. (Oct. 1, 2013) --- The Milligan College volleyball team was unable to rally and force a fifth set as they fell 3-1 to Union College in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Tuesday evening in Barbourville, Ky.
 
   In the first set, Milligan rallied from an early deficit to tie the game at 18-18 with a block from Kylie Whaley (Maryville, Tenn.), but Union quickly answered with a 4-1 run to take a 25-21 victory.
 
   After Union took a 2-0 advantage with a 25-15 set victory, Milligan jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the third set, and battled to take a 25-19 win to force a fourth set. However, the Buffaloes were unable to complete a late rally as they fell 25-18 in the decisive set.
 
   Whaley finished with a match high 18 kills, while Emilee Linkous (Morristown, Tenn.) and Samantha Bruinius (Chicago, Ill.) recorded nine kills apiece. Kaitlyn Round (Billings, Mont.) tallied 17 digs. Jessica Davenport (Cleveland, Tenn.) had 36 assists, while Heather Harvey (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Grace Ann Moorhouse (Morristown, Tenn.) finished with 12 and 11 digs, respectively.
 
   With the loss, Milligan falls to 3-6 in AAC play and 8-14 overall.
 
   The Buffaloes return to action on Saturday, Oct. 5, as they travel to Columbia, Ky., for a tri-match with Lindsey Wilson and UNOH. Action is slated for an 11 a.m., start.
