Milligan volleyball splits in tri-match

Milligan College, Tenn. (Nov. 2, 2013) --- The Milligan College women's volleyball team split in the day's games taking a win over St. Andrews University 3-1, but falling to Brenau University 3-0.

 Milligan started the first of two games to a slow start dropping to a quick 4-0 deficit. However, the Buffaloes would answer with a five-point run giving Milligan the lead 5-4. The set was a close battle for both teams, as the score was tied 10 different times. The Buffaloes would take the win at 25-23 after an attack error committed by St. Andrews. 

Milligan would also take the second set 25-22. However, St. Andrews led the match early with a 17-10 lead. Milligan would answer back with a six-point run of their own bringing the score within one at 17-16. Milligan would take the lead late in the set and win 25-22. The Buffaloes would fall in the third set to St. Andrews 25-22.

The fourth set would see Milligan capture the victory as the Buffaloes defeated St. Andrews 25-20 in 45 rallies.
Brenau proved to be a struggle for the Buffaloes offensively as Milligan fell prey to an early 13-5 Brenau lead. Despite a four-point run by Milligan late in the set, the Buffaloes would fall 25-21. The second set mirrored the first seeing Milligan fall 25-18.

Despite Milligan's offensive battle in the third set, they were unable to rally past Brenau and fell 25-22.
For the day, the Milligan hitting game was led by senior Kylie Whaley (Maryville, Tenn.) with 33 kills on the day. Jessica Davenport (Cleveland, Tenn.) recorded a total of 78 assists and 22 digs in the two games. Defensively, Kaitlyn Round (Billings, MT) earned 30 digs and Samantha Bruinius (Tinley Park, IL) also had 28 digs.

With the day's games, the Buffaloes record comes to 14-21 overall and 9-10 in the AAC.

The Buffaloes return to action Tuesday, Nov. 5 as they travel to Virginia Intermont for another Appalachian Athletic Conference match-up in Bristol, VA. Game time is slated for 6:30 p.m.
