Lady Buffaloes upset the Bulldogs in tournament play

Athens, Tenn. (Nov. 9, 2013) â€"The Milligan College women's soccer team upset Tennessee Wesleyan College in the Buffaloes' second conference tournament match-up 2-1.

The Lady Buffaloes struggled offensively in the first half only recording two shots at the Bulldogs' net as opposed to the Bulldogs' nine shots. Milligan's Charlotte Stephens (Grays, England) played a great first half stopping six of the opposing shots on goal. The Buffaloes would continue to hold off the attacking Bulldogs but would remain scoreless, themselves, for the remainder of the half.

The Buffaloes would be outshot, again, in the second half, finally seeing the first goal of the game in the 55th minute from a Tennessee Wesleyan attacker. The Buffaloes would offer an immediate response a minute later scoring their first goal off the foot of sophomore Caroline Gill (Stafford, Va.) tying the game 1-1. Milligan would score their second goal in the 81st minute by senior Lindsey Ogle (Morristown, Tenn.) taking the lead 2-1 late in the half. The Bulldogs would be unable to find a way to tie the game trailing for the remainder of the half giving the Buffaloes the win 2-1.

Head Coach Lisa Buckley commented on the day's win saying, "It was a great result for us. Answering with a goal as soon as we conceded was massive for us. We showed great character today."

The Buffaloes will face Montreat College in their next tournament match-up Thursday, Nov. 14. Location and time are to be determined.
