Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's basketball suffers 70-50 loss to No. 22 Cumberland

LEBANON, Tenn. (Dec. 16, 2013) â€" Poor shooting and a sluggish second half saw Milligan women's basketball drop a 70-50 decision to No. 22 Cumberland University Monday night inside Dallas Floyd Recreation Center.

"We struggled to put the ball in the basket tonight," said Head Coach Rich Aubrey. "All in all, we got pretty good looks, but it was just one of those nights."

Milligan (8-5, 4-2 AAC) was led in scoring by Chelsey Weddle (Hampton, Tenn.) who managed 10 points and seven rebounds, but the Lady Buffaloes were 17-of-64 (26.6%) from the floor in the loss. Haley Wyrick (Coeburn, Va.), who matched her career high of 26 two nights earlier, was held to six points on 2-of-12 shooting.

Kayla Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) finished with seven points and a team high nine rebounds.

Despite keeping things close throughout the first half, the Lady Buffaloes were unable to answer a 15-2 run put on by the host Bulldogs early in the second half. Cumberland scored the first seven points and 15 of the first 17 in the second half thanks in large part to Katie Smith who scored all 10 of her points after the intermission.

Cumberland was led in scoring by Calamity Jane Coley's 31 points. Casie Cowan, another factor in the second half run, finished with 14 points.

Milligan will return to action on New Year's Eve, Dec. 31 against Campbellsville University (Ky.) before returning to conference action against Bryan on Jan. 2.
