Milligan College, Tenn. (Feb. 14, 2013) --- The Milligan College softball team fell in both games of a nonconference doubleheader against UVA-Wise on Thursday afternoon at Anglin Field. The Buffaloes fell 7-1 in the opening game of the day and 11-0 in the second game.

  After neither team was able to get a runner on board to open the first game, the Lady Cavaliers struck first with a run, but
Chancli Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.) ended the inning with two straight strikeouts.
Catherine McGinnis (Knoxville, Tenn.) singled to get on base in the home side of the second inning, but the Buffaloes were unable to bring her home and tie the game.

  Milligan retired the UVA-Wise batters in order in the top of the third, and senior
Camille Olvey (Maryville, Tenn.) got into scoring position for Milligan with a two-out double. However, Milligan was unable to capitalize on the opportunity and continued to trail 1-0 heading into the fourth inning. After both teams were held scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings, the Lady Cavaliers added a run in the top of the fifth to go up 2-0.

  The Buffaloes saw
Krista Lambdin (Knoxville, Tenn.),
Jessica Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.) and Olvey get on base with hits, but the Buffaloes were unable to close the gap. UVA-Wise extended their lead in the top of the seventh with five runs. In the bottom of the seventh,
Emily Biggs (Kingsport, Tenn.) used a stand up double to get into scoring position, and scored off a
Sarah Arrowood (Asheville, N.C.) single. However, that was the only run the Buffaloes could get on the board.

  Olvey led the way at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance. In the pitching circle, C. Connatser was handed the loss in a complete game effort as she allowed nine hits and four earned runs with six strikeouts.

  The second game saw the Lady Cavaliers jump out to an 8-0 lead after three innings of play.
Chelsey Weaver (Knoxville, Tenn.) hit a single to get on base for Milligan in the bottom of the fourth, but the Buffaloes were unable to drive her across home plate. In the game's final inning, Milligan saw three players reach base. However, the Buffaloes were unable to continue the inning and score the runs.

Samantha Lilley (Kingsport, Tenn.) recorded a 1-for-1 performance at the plate to lead the Buffaloes, while Weaver finished the game 1-for-2.
Samantha Mahala (Mountain City, Tenn.) was handed the loss in just over three innings of work as she allowed five earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
