Milligan College, Tenn. (Feb. 27, 2013) --- The Milligan College baseball team came up short in two games against No. 3 Lee University on Wednesday afternoon at Anglin Field. The Buffaloes fell 7-3 in the first game and 16-4 in the nightcap. ÂÂ

  In the first game, the Buffaloes retired the Flames in order, but they were unable to score an early run. With bases loaded in the second inning,
Corey McPherson (Johnson City, Tenn.) and
Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) drove in runners to give Milligan a 2-0 lead. Lee battled back as they scored two runs to tie the game in the top of the third and took their first lead of the day with two more runs in the fourth inning.

  The Buffaloes cut into the lead as
Nick Loughry (Kingsport, Tenn.) scored off a Lee error adding another run for the Buffaloes in the fifth inning to make it 4-3. After a scoreless sixth inning, Milligan was unable to get back in front of the Flames.

  McPherson was 2-for-3 with a RBI, while Kirk was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Justin Johnson (North Wilkesboro, N.C.) was handed the loss as he allowed three earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts.ÂÂ

  Lee started the second game strong with two runs early in the first, and ran out to a 13-0 lead after three innings.
Sam Tarlton (Chuckey, Tenn.) opened the scoring for Milligan in the in bottom of the third, and the Buffaloes added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth.

  Tarelton went 2-for-3 with a RBI, and
Tyree Jeffries (Jackson, Tenn.) went 2-for-3. Kirk finished the game 1-for-2 with a RBI.
Jake Watts (Boone, N.C.) was handed the loss allowing five earned runs on four hits.

  Milligan moves to 7-6 overall.

  The Buffaloes return to action on Friday, March 1, as they open Appalachian Athletic Conference play at Reinhardt University. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. ÂÂ
