Milligan baseball falls to No. 1 Tennessee Wesleyan

Athens, Tenn. (March 10, 2013) --- The Milligan College baseball team was unable to overcome an early deficit as they fell 12-4 to No. 1 Tennessee Wesleyan in Appalachian Athletic Conference action on Sunday in Athens, Tenn.
 
   After the Bulldogs jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings of play, Corey McPherson (Johnson City, Tenn.) hit a solo homerun in the top of the third for the Buffaloes, and Blake Buck (Maryville, Tenn.) scored on a Nathan Millsap (Kingsport, Tenn.) single in the top of the fourth inning. However, Tennessee Wesleyan scored four runs in the home side of the fourth to take a 12-2 lead.
 
   Milligan cut into the gap in the sixth inning when Brandon Malone (Maryville, Tenn.) hit a solo homerun, and in the eighth as Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) crossed home plate. However, the Buffaloes were unable to close the gap any further.
 
   Sam Tarleton (Chuckey, Tenn.) and Buck were 2-for-4 to pace the Buffaloes at the plate.
 
   On the mound, Ethan Fleenor (Johnson City, Tenn.) was handed the loss in three innings of work as he allowed eight runs on six hits.
 
   With the loss, Milligan falls to 2-4 in AAC play and 9-10 overall.
 
   The Buffaloes are slated to return to action on Monday, March 11, as they host OSU-Lima at Anglin Field. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
